How to manage emotions through Hypnosis and Self-Hypnosis

This article is an automatic translation from this article : Comment gérer ses émotions par l’hypnose et l’auto-hypnose

Managing emotions is one of the predilections of topics Hypnosis and Self-Hypnosis. Knowing how to manage emotions is an important skill in life, be it for our social, romantic or professional.

Knowing how to manage emotions is unfortunately not a skill taught in school although it has a direct impact on learning. How many children fail in school because they do not like their teacher or they think their teacher does not like? And how many have completely different results from the same material when changing teacher?

Our emotions give us information in a very particular way of what we are experiencing. They allow us to give meaning to our lives, to find what makes us happiest and guide us in this direction.

But when these emotions are too strong, too unpleasant or too intense, it can quickly become exhausting. Emotions affect our physiology, our hormones, our heartbeat, our breathing, etc … And if you do not know how to manage his emotions, the health impact can be negative.

Instead, manage emotions helps to be in better health and better enjoy life. Therefore how to manage emotions is a key competence of personal development.

Hypnosis and self-hypnosis to better manage emotions

Hypnosis and self-hypnosis help better manage emotions by acting on the mental images that are the source of these emotions. When growing up, we experience all sorts of emotions that are associated with triggers. This is how we can learn that this activity gives us positive emotions or such other activity provides us with negative emotions.

These emotions are starting physical sensations such as contraction or relaxation of the shoulders, the acceleration or slow heart rate and respiration, contraction or relaxation of stomach muscles, etc … One learns to recognize them in the naming and identifying the elements of our experience that triggered the emotion.

These elements are the perceptions by the senses from the outside world. One can associate a sound so loud and sudden fear, the image of an animal pleasure, odor disgust, etc … These reactions are instinctive and are often helpful.

But experience is accompanied by many perceptions, and it happens that the unconscious makes bad associations. It can have a bird associated with such extreme fear experience because there was a bird at this time. And although the presence of the bird did not detract from the experience, an association has been created between the bird and the physiological response of panic.

Thus, a phobia can be created.

Technical sub-modalities to manage emotions

By learning how to manage emotions through hypnosis and self-hypnosis, it is possible to change his reactions. One of these techniques uses the so-called sub-modalities.

Experience is recorded by our senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste. This is called modalities. This is called the visual modality for the view, the auditory modality for the hearing and kinesthetic modality for touch, smell and taste.

Smell and taste are combined with the touch because they are finer perceptions that intervene least in our experience. Most often recognize a person or an object in the view by smell.

Each experiment is recorded in the memory with a combination of these modalities. A memory may be further characterized by a sound or an image, for example. Some people who have lived a car accident remember more of tire noise and shock to the body than what they saw at that time.

Each modalities, there are many sub-arrangements. An example picture may be in color or black and white, it can be three-dimensional or two-dimensional, it can be blurry or sharp, near or far, etc … A sound can be high or low, resonant or muted, its pace may change its tone also.

Learning to manage emotions is learning to modify these sub-modalities.

The reason why most people prefer to see a good movie at the cinema rather than on their mobile phone screen, it is because the image is larger and the sound is better, and therefore they go further into the film .

The image size is often an important submodality our experience. For most people, the picture is, the more experience is enhanced. To some extent, however, as if the image is so large we can not see it in full, it can lose its influence.

Teach his brain how to manage emotions

To manage emotions, we must teach the brain to record the experience in finding the most appropriate sub-modalities.

If you want to learn how to manage your anger, for example, you must teach your brain to change the way it encodes experiences related to anger.

Taking your memories of anger and modifying sub-modalities so as to feel less angry, you teach your brain to do the same the next time you’re in a similar situation.

A concrete example will surely help you better understand how to manage negative emotions.

A person often angry against his children because they let hang their business. In describing the sub-modalities of this experience, it is a film in 3 dimensions in which it is, with strong colors, or each misplaced object appears larger him. There are also strong voices.

By changing the submodalities of the memory under hypnosis, that person can get this image at size of a postcard pastel colors in which it is visible from afar, and turn it down to whisper.

Thus changing the image, that person experiences the calm in a situation that once angered him. By leading to this process several times, it may feel that calm the next time it will be in this situation and will be able to manage emotions.

You can have fun with the submodalities of your memories in the same way that you could have fun with a photo editing software or audio editing.

Have fun !

Method Acting : How Hypnosis Can Help

method acting hypnosis

What is Method Acting

Method Acting comes from the work of Constantin Stanislavski who developped a method to transform into the character. Actors who are using Method Acting are not faking it. They are living it as if they were the character.

This hypnosis session is designed to help you with method acting : Click Here.

Use Of Past Memories

Method Acting is known for its use of the past memories of the actor. Actors are asked to use a personal memory of a situation that is close to the situation of the character.  It will help the actor to link the Need of the character to his own unfulfilled Need.

This aspect of Method Acting has been criticized as some actors and acting teachers believe that it can hurt the actor to constantly dig in his memory to find scars and unfulfilled needs that can be used for the role.

Use Of Imagination

Of course, the use of past memories is not the only way to bring life to a character. In Method Acting, it’s whatever works ! Actors can use imagination or symbolic images to connect to an emotion or an imaginary circumstance.

Stella Adler for example is well known for her preference on the use of imagination over past memory. Stanislavsky himself later realized that the constant use of past memories could be quite damaging for the actors.

The Goal Of Method Acting : Being real and Authentic

The ultimate goal of method acting is to deliver a powerful, realistic and believable performance. In order to do so, actors have to live in the scene as in real life. As Meisner said : « Acting is behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances ».

The difficulty is to believe in the imaginary circumstances as if it were happening in real life. The use of past memories makes it easier as all the details of your experience is already in your subconscious mind. It’s lying there somewhere. And sometimes, your memory of a situation is not exactly as the situation happened. And you’ve probably experienced a situation where you have a very precise memory and you discuss it with someone and they have a different memory of this situation.

Memory and imagination are like the two doors of the same closet.

How Hypnosis Can Help For Method Acting

Entering a state of trance

The trance state is a state of mind that is used in hypnosis to quiet the conscious mind and allow access to the unconscious mind. As Acting is mainly an unconscious process, method actors are in state of trance when they act. They are allowed to access to a more vivid imagination and intense feelings. They experience what athletes describe as the « Zone ». Sometimes, they are so fully engaged in what they are doing that it’s only after the performance that they realize what they’ve done. Their performance is spontaneous and full of surprises.

This state of Trance can be reached through hypnosis. Hypnosis can train the actors to get in the best trance for their performance.

Reaching the higher self

When someone is being hypnotized, there’s a part of him who is conscious of bbeing hypnotized. And an other part is engaged is the hypnotic trance. Just as when we are watching a movie, and we are deeply engaged in the story, and a part of us is still conscious that the story is a fiction and that we are comfortably seated in our chair.

Method Actors often refer to this dual state of consciousness as the higher self. That’s a part of us that’s conscious of the real situation of the production, the choregraphy, the lines, the blockings. And the other part of us is involved in the scene, fighting for the scene objective of the character.

Past lives explorations and dreaming

Hypnosis can be used to experience some past lives remembering. Vivid dreams that seems to be a memory, something so real that it’s as if it really happenned even though we are not in the circumstances of our real life.

A similar exploration of the circumstances of the character can happen under an hypnotic trance. Hypnosis can be used to induce a dreaming state where you will get insights about your character. Some hypnotic inductions can be used before going to ed to give instructions to your unconscious mind to bring you a vivid dream about your character.

Michael Chekhov refers to some visualisation techniques he used to create characters in the theater of his mind, asking them to show him answers to his questions.

Letting Go and relaxation

Regular use of hypnosis will help you calm down and relax. When performing, it’s too late to control what you do. You have to surrender to your subconscious mind and allow him to do the work. The regular practice of hypnosis and self-hypnosis will train you to let go and trust your subconscious mind.

Improving Imagination

Allowing your subconscious mind to communicate with you will free your creativity and your imagination. Some hypnotic sessions are designed to improve your imagination by allowing it to express itself more often. This pack for example is designed to boost creativity : Boost Your Creativity.

Protecting Your Self

Method Acting is difficult because you have to forget about yourself. You have to enter in the life of someone else and completely forget about your own. But what if you get stuck into the character, what if you can’t find yourself back ? Just as someone who would stay in hypnotic trance and never be able to get out.

By learning and practicing self-hypnosis, you will find that you can more easily come out of trance. By mastering your states of mind, you will gain control on your trance and be able to go deeper and come back better. Just as you can’t swim deep under water if you don’t know how to come back safely.

Stage Phobia : How To Deal With Stage Fright

stage phobia

Stage phobia or stage fright is a fear and anxiety that appears when you are required to perform. It’s a kind of performance anxiety and is observed in people from all backgrounds and experiences. Actors, musicians, public speakers, politicians can experience this stage phobia.

Stage fright or stage phobia is very common. It might not be a big problem for many people who don’t have to perform in front of people, but performers have to deal with it in their professional life . Many famous people have stage phobia and have to find ways to deal with it in their daily professional life.

Some people will overcome stage phobia with drugs and alcohol, some will use relaxation and hypnosis. The last one is probably the most effective on the long term !

Why Do I Have Stage Fright or Stage Phobia ?

There is 2 aspects of performance :

1. The activity itself : This is what you do, and probably enjoy doing. That’s when you’re acting and having fun. That’s the activity you can accomplish for fun.

2. The consequences of the activity on you and people around you : booking or suceeding in a scene, receiving positive or negative feedbacks, etc…

You might be surprised to learn that you can induce performance anxiety in a child by giving him compliments on something he enjoyed doing. This is because you change the reward from internal, the pleasure and enjoyment, to external, the compliment. That’s where stage phobia and stage fright begins : instead of looking for an internal satisfaction like your sensations, you’re looking for an external satisfaction.

I have stage fright when i focus more on what others think of my performance rather than my performance itself.

Use Sensations To Overcome Stage Fright And Stage Phobia

Now, in order to overcome stage phobia you have to change your perceptions from external to internal. You have to come back to your sensations instead of analysing what other people might be thinking about you.

How do you do that ? By simply changing your focus and inner dialogue from external, e.g. « what are they thinking about me ? They probably think i look stupid… » to internal : your sensations « I see this guy with a blue shirt, i feel tensions on my shoulders, i hear a car… »

This is a first step to overcome stage phobia : you connect to your sensations and you accept them.

At the beginning, you will probably notice some unpleasant sensations like tensions in your stomach. But by giving it your attention and accepting it, you also allow this sensation to change. And you can move on to more pleasant sensations.

Have A Short Memory

Performance anxiety comes when you start to think about what others are thinking about what you do. You’re not actually focusing on what you’re doing but you’re focusing on what others might think about it. That makes you split your energy between two tasks, resulting in a lower performance.

When asked what was the greatest characteristic of a successful pass receiver un football, the great quaterback Otto Graham said : « A damned short memory »( from New Psycho-Cybernetics).

Forgetting the previous negative experiences is a powerful way to deal with performance anxiety. Each time you perform, you should do it as if for the first time.

Even positive feedbacks can take you away from your activity. It happens that some actors are performing really well on their first film, and they receive compliments for their performance, and the next time, they seem to have lost all their instinctive ability to perform and be in the moment.

They put pressure on themselves, trying to fulfill the expectations that others have put on them, whereas they were completely in the moment at the first time.

Performance anxiety is basically a loss of focus. So working on focus shall help. The Meisner technique and repetition exercice is a tremendous help as it trains you to stay in the moment and focused on your partner.

Use Visualization To Overcome Stage Fright

Visualization can help reduce stage phobia and stage fright. By visualising your performance in a calm environnement, you give yourself a chance to relax and enjoy your performance.

When you have stage phobia or performance anxiety, simply thinking about your performance can make you feel nervous. By relaxing deeply and putting yourself in a state of inner calm, you will be able to visualize your performance without anxiety. So you will dissociate the feeling of anxiety fromm your performance, and associate a positive feeling instead.

Visualization for stage phobia and performance anxiety can be done in 3 steps :

Step 1 : Relax physically and mentally by visualizing yourself completely relaxed in a relaxing environnement. You can visualize yourself in a place you love and where you feel completely at ease.

Step 2 : Visualize your ideal performance. What would it be if everything goes well, what would your sensations be ? Enjoy this visualization, make it brighter, add details to make it even more perfect.

Step 3 : Visualize the nightmare. Visualize what would happen it goes wrong. But this time, keep the inner feeling of calm. Visualize yourself staying cool and calm when everything goes wrong. If you find yourself getting nervous, just come back to the first step, find your calm, and try again.

Most of the time, people forget the step 3 and just visualize what they want. But they don’t get prepared for what they don’t want. Step 3 will help you accept your circumstances and keep your calm.

Hypnosis For Actors : What Is It And Why Is It Useful

hypnosis for actors

When you think about Hypnosis, you might have some ideas, beliefs and images in your mind related to what you’ve seen on television or in the movies. Hypnosis is a relatively young discipline but also a very ancient practice. In this article, I’ll do my best to explain you what hypnosis for actors is, and why is hypnosis for actors useful.

What Is Hypnosis ?

According to Wikipedia, Hypnosis is « a state of human consciousness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness characterized by an enhanced capacity for response to suggestion. »

This definition makes it clear that hypnosis is a state of consciousness. It’s actually a very natural state of consciousness that we experience on a daily basis every time our attention is focused on something. You can enter in hypnosis while driving your car, while watching a movie, or listening to someone really interesting.

As actors, you experience a state of hypnosis every time you’re in a scene or exercising your imagination or practising method acting exercices. My point of vue is that acting and hypnosis have a lot in common. I’ll say more about that later in this article.

The state of trance

The state of hypnosis is also refered as hypnotic trance, or trance state. In many cultures, this state of trance is used to cure diseases or mental problems. This state of trance can be induced using drugs in some cultures, dance and rythm, or story telling and talking as it is in hypnosis.

The state of Trance has some characteristics that you can recognize in your daily life : focused attention and suggestibility. That’s why hypnosis can be used to induce a positive change by giving positive suggestions.

It has also been used in your life to give you negative suggestions : many child are hypnotized every day by their teacher or parent and receive negative suggestions such as « you’re not good enough », « you’re a bad boy/girl », and so on. In these cases, focused attention is induced by authority. Someone who has authority is naturally focusing attention on what he says.

A child has to respond to the authority of their parents or teachers, following their suggestions and orders : « Come here, look me in the eyes, you’re a bad boy/girl ! ». In this example, following the two first orders « come here » and « look me in the eyes » prepares the mind to accept the last suggestion « you’re a bad boy ».

The same mecanism can be used in hypnosis for actors and is known as suggestibility tests. For example, an hypnotist could say « sit on the chair, put your hands on your knees, close your eyes and relax into an hypnotic trance state ». As the first orders are accepted, the next one will be accepted more easily.

There are many levels of trance state. Some are very light and some are very deep. In the daily life, you probably experience light states of trance. Some deep trance states involve a paralysis of the body. Just as if the body is asleep, but the mind is still awake. That happens sometimes naturally before sleep or when you wake up.

Remember : the state of trance is natural and everyone experience many of different states of trance every day. Now, when you learn hypnosis for actors and self-hypnosis, you can gain control over these states of trance and use it for your personnal benefit.

Changing behaviors

Hypnosis is widely used around the world to induce changes in people’s behaviors. As I said earlier, the state of hypnosis makes you more available to suggestions. Which means that you can receive suggestion for a better life.

Hypnosis is used in sports to help athletes improve their concentration and performance. Hypnosis  can be used to overcome limitations that someone might have in his mind. For example, many golfers now use hypnosis to increase their performance by visualising their goal and enter the perfect state of consciousness to perform.

Some people use hypnosis to quit smoking or change their eating habits, lose weight, be more confident or increase their concentration at work. The applications of hypnosis is almost unlimited. Hypnosis can also be used for aenasthesia before surgery or to recover quickly from a disease.

For a full list of these applications, click here !

The subconscious mind

All these effects are possible because hypnosis is a way to communicate to the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is the part of your brain that controls your body functions. As I’m writing this, I don’t think about all the muscles that I have to use to type. I just think about the words I want and my subconscious mind is moving my fingers on the keybord.

The subconscious mind actually controls almost everything in your body. You can use your conscious mind to give it orders and suggestions, but in the end the subconscious mind is in control. That’s why we can sometimes struggle to achieve something we want on the conscious level because the subconscious mind is blocking it.

When actors are performing, they have to rely on the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is in charge of remembering the lines and the blocking, recreating the imaginary circumstances of the scene, connecting to your character’s objective, as your conscious mind itself is altered and adopts the thinking of your character. Hypnosis for actors can help you with that.

When you don’t rely on your subconscious mind, that’s when you experience self-consciousness and performance anxiety. You try to consciously control your performance and the end result is that you make it worse.

Why Is Hypnosis For Actors Useful

Hypnosis for actors will make you more in touch with your subconscious mind. It will help you relax and trust your subconscious mind with your performance. It will help you reach the best state of consciousness for your performance.

Acting is a state of transe

Remember the characteristics of the trance state ? Focused attention and suggestibility. When you’re in an acting exercice, focused on re-creating a particular circumstance or place, you are already in a state of trance. Your attention is focused on whatever you’re creating, and you’re open to the suggestions of your acting coach.

When you’re in a Meisner repetition exercice, your attention is focused on your partner and your imagination is awake.

Every time you’re working on an acting exercice, you’re entering some kind of a trance state. That means your attention is focused and that also means that you’re more suggestible.

Now, that’s a good thing because that makes you available to directions. Your imagination is awake, and you have an experience of modified consciousness. That also means that you’re more vulnerable to suggestions, positive or negative. That’s why you can feel really bad after a negative feedback from a teacher. Because you were already in state of trance, and their feedback works as a negative suggestion on you.

Actors are very suggestible, they have to be in order to give the best of themselves. Actors have to be open and accept suggestions from their coach or acting teacher or director to be able to perform at their best. That’s why they can also be so vulnerable and have a very negative self image. Some actors can be completely destroyed by negative suggestions from their teachers, directors or collegues.

Acting teachers and acting coachs have an enormous responsability over their students. I hope most of them understand that and are looking for ways to improve their communication in order to preserve their students.

As actors, we also have the responsability to learn about our own mind and to be able to use it at the best. That’s why hypnosis for actors is so useful.

You might have experienced the feeling of being really powerful when working on a powerful character. And feeling really negative when working on a depressed character. Some characters will influence us more than others, but it’s quite clear that they have an impact on us as actors.

That’s why Method Acting can have a negative reputation as many actors seem to be damaged and unable to recover from a particular role. That’s a shame that some actors are able to use their instrument to produce wonderful character, but are unable to use it for their lives. Many actors use drugs and have self destructive behaviors when they could be using their skilled imagination to have a better life.

Use hypnosis to improve your method acting here !

Overcoming personnal obstacles

Now, you understand that acting and hypnosis is very related. Acting can help you in your daily life, but it can also hurt you, depending on the characters you’re working on, and who you’re working with.

Hypnosis for actors and self-hypnosis can help you overcome the personnal obstacles that you have to face in your acting career. Hypnosis for actors can help you on the business side of acting as it is already helping millions of people in their professional life. It can also help you with your acting skills by allowing you to trust your subconscious mind more.

You can overcome stage fright or performance anxiety in a few sessions.

The science behind acting

Hypnosis for Actors
Konstantin Stanislavky

Today’s modern acting is mostly based on the work of Stanislavsky. Contemporary to Stanislavsky was  Ivan Pavlov, the famous physiologist known for his work on classical conditioning. At the same period, Sigmund Freud was working on his theory of Psychoanalysis.

There is a science behind acting, and Stanislavsky probably knew about it. Psychology has evolved since then, and Acting has evolved. I believe that hypnosis is a science that can provide acting with many practical tools and insight on the technique of Acting.

We are only discovering and explaining now the power of hypnosis for actors. And I am quite surprised that only a few people know about it. Acting can really benefit from Hypnosis for actors, and Hypnosis can probably benefit from acting.

How To Be Confident In Life And Acting

how to be confident in life

I used to think that actors were confident people. Now that i’m surrounded by actors, i can just see that they also suffer from shyness or the lack of confidence. But they work on it. Actors need to know how to be confident in life in order to thrive in his business. And confidence is sexy, and sexy is what sells.

How To Be Confident In Life

Confidence comes and goes with success and failure

You have probably experienced times in your life when you were feeling really confident. Maybe because you had such a success that you were feeling unstoppable. And that feeling was great but it didn’t last long.

Confidence is a fluctuent feeling. It comes and goes with the experiences we have in life. You can sometime feel very confident and the next day feel like a looser. And you can feel like a looser today and feel very confident in a few minutes.

Success creates confidence : start with small successes

If you want to know how to be confident in life because you need it for a project, remember that confidence comes from the successes that you have. Give yourself some small goals that you know you’ll be able to achieve. It will fuel your success, and you will then be able to succed with greater goals.

If your big goal is too scary, cut it down into smaller goals.

Decide that everything comes for the best

Now if success makes you feel confident, failure can make you loose confidence. Unless you know how to be confident in life when you face failure.

If you decide that failure doesn’t exist, you will see everything as an opportunity. If you can change your mindset to see everything as a test or an experience, you will have the results you need to succeed. And you will learn from everything.

Just decide that everything that happens to you is helping you to achieve your dream.

Take care of your health

You need to be healthy to be confident in life. When you take care of yourself, your body will thank you by giving you some positive hormones that will make you feel good and confident.

Can you notice some moments when you feel less confident after eating certain type of food ? Excessive sugar can mess your system and make you feel powerless sometimes. Good eating habits will help you be more confident.

Sports will also help you as you’ll feel more physically able to achieve things.

Every technique to teach you how to be confident in life will work better if you’re in good health.

How To Be Confident In Life Now ?

Practice calmness and be in the present moment

Sometimes we can be so agitated that we loose confidence because we don’t know how to focus. The practice of calmness and awareness is a great tool to be more confident.

Take some time to just sit and relax and focus on your breathing. Letting go of all your worries and concerns as you focus on the feeling of calmness that is inside you. Do that as much as you can and every time you need to be more confident.

Your subconscious mind knows how to be confident in life. When you stop focusing on your worries and wome back to the present moment, your subconscious mind will give you the confidence you need. Because you need it now.

In martial arts, it is well known that presence is the source of confidence. If a martial artist is really present, he can react to whatever happens. But if he tries to guess what the opponent is gonna do, he looses confidence.

Be here now !

Use your memory

This one is the opposite. You can do this when you need to be more confident but your not in the action yet. It will help you feel generally more confident.

Just close your eyes and use your memory and imagination to go back to a time and place where you were feeling really confident. Recreate this situation with all your senses and enjoy these feelings as you allow your body to relax. When you’re there, you can anchor that feeling by taping your hands on your leg for example. Enjoy it for a moment, then come back into the present moment.

Now everytime you’ll need more confidence, you can use the anchor you’ve created. Just tap your hands on your legs as you did during the relaxation, and you’ll feel that feeling coming back.

Now that you know how to be confident in life, you can also use hypnosis to help you feel unstoppable.

How To Deal With Rejection

how to deal with rejection

Actors have to deal with rejection on a daily basis. And for our animal brain, rejection means danger. It means that you won’t have the protection you need to survive.  Knowing how to deal with rejection is an important skill in this business since you have to deal with it.

Even though we know that we will have to face rejection, the feeling of being rejected still hurts and can lead to procrastinating. But the good news is that hypnosis can help you make this feeling more acceptable.

How To Deal With Rejection On The Subconscious Level

Accept the rejection

If you want to know how to deal with rejection, you first have to accept rejection. Most of the time, when we are feeling rejected, we reject the rejection. We try to reject that feeling on others, blaming them or praying for revenge.

And that’s what hurts : the anger of being rejected.

You have to learn to feel okay with being rejected. And visualisation can help you with that.

You can close your eyes, relax and connect to your inner joy, and imagine yourself in a place where you’re feeling very relaxed, very secure. When you’re really connected to that place, you imagine a situation from your past or an imaginary situation where you were rejected. Just watch this situation on the screen of your mind, and continue to focus on the feeling of relaxation.

If you feel some anger or sadness or any unpleasant feeling, just go back to your place of joy, relaxation and security. Re-connect to your inner security. And when you’re ready, explore a new situation where you have to deal with rejection. And keep the feeling of security with you.

With some practice, you will be able to accept the rejection and still feel secure.

For a great hypnosis session to deal with rejection, just listen to this one : Click Here.

How To Deal With Rejection On The Conscious Level

It’s not about you

If it helps for you, you can also use rationalisation to recognize that it is not about you. If you were not selected for a particular job, this might be because of many factors. And you can’t decide which one. Just accept that they might have chosen someone else they find more suitable for the project and move on.

Maybe, it a sign that this project was not for you. Whatever thoughts work for you, you can use them to help you feel better. Just make sure you don’t get stuck into anger or blaming other people.

Get back to work

During the process that led you to this feeling of rejection, you might have learned something. Take some time to figure out what were your mistakes if you made some, and work to get better.

If you really don’t know how to deal with rejection, you might need some exterior help. Hypnosis is a great tool, but you might be unable to use it by yourself if you’re facing some strong emotions.

You need to be guided, and that’s why i recommend you the following hypnosis sessions :

5 Communication Skills Every Actor Should Have

communication skills

Acting is  a profession which requires a lot of communication skills. It is a business of relationship and it is important to be able to build postive relationships with everyone in the profession. It is a also a craft where your communication skills are used to create an experience for the audience.

Here is the top 5 communication skills every actors should have :

1. Deep listening

Listening is probably the most important communication skill every actor need. Actors need to be able to listen deeply, which means that they get affected by what’s being said. Listening is not only about being able to repeat the words that have been said. It’s about listening to what is being said behind these words.

Great actors are great listeners. They are completely present and open, and not preparing their lines or what they are about to say. And that works for real life too.

A great way to develop your listening skills is to take some Meisner classes.

2. Great non-verbal communication

Non-verbal communication skills are the most important communication skills. Non-verbal communication is responsible for the most part of what other people think and feel about you. Some scientist say that more than 70% of communication is non-verbal. You can just watch the video below to see a great example of how non-verbal communication influences people.

Non-verbal communication is everything in acting since that is what you bring to the text.

3. Imagination and Story Telling

Actors are story tellers. The business is about telling stories. Your communication skills are used to tell stories and to bring people in these stories.

Using your imagination while you talk will help you bring people in. Great story tellers often use images, details and impersonation to make their story more vivid. You have to see images in your imagination when you tell a story. Tell your story as if you were in it !

4. Relaxation

Actors are often very nervous. And this nervousness is getting in your way. It is blocking the flow of energy inside the body. People with great communication skills manage to stay relaxed when they communicate even when they are deeply touched by what they are saying.

Every great acting teacher have emphasized on the importance of being relaxed.

This video of Matt Damon says it all :

5. Being Truthfull and Congruent

The previous communication skills listed will lead you to this last one : congruence. That happens when your verbal and non-verbal communication are conveying the same message. Being truthfull is not the easiest way to communicate. It’s the most rewarding.

Every actor wants to be truthfull when acting, but what about being truthfull in everyday life ? And it doesn’t mean saying the shit you think out loud. It’s more than that. It’s about expressing your feelings in the right way so that people you care about know what you really feel. And being yourself.

Reinvent yourself or be yourself ?

reinvent yourself

Many actors say that the big part of the journey is to get to know ourselves. We have to get rid of that mask that is stopping us from being truthfull. But sometimes, it means that we have to take some risks. Maybe it’s time to reinvent yourself.

Should you reinvent yourself or just be yourself ?

What it means to reinvent yourself

As you take a quick glance at your life or your career, you might recognize some patterns, some behaviors that you keep doing again and again. Change is good, and when you reinvent yourself, you can decide which changes you wanna make. Making some changes in your life will eventually change your life.

You can’t wait for new results if you keep doing the same actions.

You can reinvent yourself by making some changes in your habits, your activities or your behaviors. This will also help you overcome shyness if you need to.

In acting, of course, it also means that you have to change the way you act or the roles you work on.

What it means to be yourself

When you try to be someone else, you are just pretending. And you know, and everybody knows that you are not who you pretend to be. We often use a social mask to cover our weaknesses or what we think are our weaknesses. But we are much more than this mask.

Being yourself is the ability to express your feelings from your point of vue, and not trying to say what you guess other people wan’t to hear.

In your business relationships, you want to keep a friendly face of course. But you also want to show your personnality so that you can inspire people.

Being yourself doesn’t mean that you can’t reinvent yourself. It means that you accept your feelings and that you find a proper way to express them. Some people do that naturally and they shine with others. And some people need some help.

Reinvent yourself with hypnosis

Hypnosis will help you get in touch with your subconscious mind. And as you begin to feel that your subconscious mind is working for you, you will discover a new part of you.

Acting is about expressing different parts of you. And as you get in touch with these parts, you will feel that your self is expanding. You’re not limited to what you think your are.

You can use hypnosis to reinvent yourself and imagine new behaviors. And it will make you more authentic as these new behaviors will come from your subconsicous mind in collaboration with what you wan’t.

how to overcome social phobia and shyness

Many actors report that they’ve started acting as a way to overcome shyness and gain confidence. And indeed, going on stage as a character can help you reinvent yourself in a way you would never be able to do in real life. But sometimes, actors remain shy and don’t know how to overcome social phobia and shyness in real life.

How to overcome social phobia and shyness easily

Shyness is a form of social anxiety. At some point in your life, you’ve been feeling anxious in the presence of new people. And someone labelled you as a « shy person ». Maybe someone who loved you deeply said that and you accepted it. But what if that person talked to you in a different way, encouraging you as the courageous person you are ?

Being shy is not BEING shy. It’s more ACTING shy… And that’s why many actors are able to overcome social phobia and shyness when they act.

How Can I Stop Procrastinating And Start Acting ?

how to stop procrastinating

Procrastination is the ennemy for every worker. Every serious worker or entrepreneur asks himself « how can I stop procrastinating now ». Because procrastination makes you loose your money or your time.

When it comes to acting, procrastination can reveal your lack of self-belief, or your lack of organisation. Most of the time, we procrastinate because we simply don’t know where to start.

So How Can I Stop Procrastinating Now ?

Just do it ! Focus on starting

There’s a part of your brain that really doesn’t like to leave unfinished business. That’s the part of you that hates being interrupted because this part will continue to think about whatever you were doing.

That same part of you is the one which gets you stuck on Facebook because you don’t really know when it ends… You start checking your Facebook for 5 minutes and you stay for hours.

You can use this to your advantage ! How can I stop procrastinating by hacking my brain ?

Just start ! All you have to do is decide where to start, and just start the activity. If you’re working on a new play, you might start by reading it or printing your lines. Just focus on starting and you’ll be more likely to keep working after that.

Separate planning from doing

For the bigger projects, you might wan’t to plan your work and decide what you’ll do first. If you wan’t to write your own short film for example, you can cut this big task into smaller parts.

Take some time out to plan your work and decide the first tasks you’re going to achieve. Then decide a time to do it and write it down in your planning. You may wan’t to write the first thing you have to do to start the activity so that you’ll just have to start.

For your short film for example, you could decide that you first have to write down everything you wan’t to put in your film. And to start this activity, you just need to sit down with a pen and paper.

It’s a good idea to decide to allow yourself some time dedicated to planning every week.

How can I stop procrastinating with hypnosis

Sometimes, you don’t need to know how to stop doing something to stop doing it. You can also use hypnosis to stop procrastinating now. Hypnosis will use the power of your subconscious mind to help you.

You’re subconscious mind is not asking « How can i stop procrastinating ». Your subconscious mind is asking « what should i do next ». It’s waiting for the clear instructions from you conscious mind. But when you conscious mind is asking « how can i stop procrastinating », your subconscious mind just hear the keyword « procrastinating ».

You need to reframe your subconscious mind so that you get to work sooner and avoid distractions. Hypnosis will help you with that  :
